Thompson’s annual benefit ‘Portraits of Courage’ is a time the community comes together to help raise awareness and money for this amazing organization and all they do for the love of children. And while every year is special, on May 11, 2010, it became THE social event. Embracing the power of social media, Corder Philips’ own PRQueen (a.k.a Kathy Rowan) put together an influential group of ‘Twitterati’ at a Twitter Table that pounded out 140-character stories about Thompson and the at-risk children and families it serves to seek $20 (or more) donations. Through the Twitter Table, the group raised $4,000 contributing to the grand total of $637,000 the entire luncheon generated. Not a bad bonus contribution for a first-time effort. Plus, in addition to the money raised, there was a lot of media buzz generated for our client via the Charlotte Observer, WBT radio and two interviews with WCNC and Philanthropy Journal.
